AFTERCARE
Aquaphor® - Aveeno® - DIAL GOLD®
From this point on, your artist, Sophollie, is not responsible for any problems you may have encountered with your new tattoo(such as infections) if you don’t take care of it properly. It is very important that you follow these guidelines. A really beautiful tattoo can turn into a disaster if you do not take care of it properly.
Keeping the bandage on:
As beautiful as your new tattoo is, it is still an open wound. So please take very good care of your tattoo. Open flesh is a breeding ground for bacteria and infection. You may notice your new tattoo will be bleeding for an hour or two, so it is very important to leave the bandage on for 2 hours. Excitement of having a new tattoo will make you want to remove the bandage so you can show your family and friends, but they are going to have to wait until later.
Washing and Treating Your Tattoo:
After you remove the bandage, clean your tattoo with antibacterial hand soap thoroughly and then rinse with lukewarm water. When the plasma dries on the skin surface, it creates scabs. So remember to always moisturize your tattoo. After cleaning your tattoo, pat dry(do not rub) the area firmly with a CLEAN towel or paper towel to get it completely dry, then apply a very light application of Aquaphor®. Apply Aquaphor® for the first two days and then switch to Fragrance-Free lotion such as Aveeno® or Lubriderm® until your tattoo is completely healed. On average, it takes about 2 weeks for your tattoo to heal. If you are diabetic, it may take a little longer for your tattoo to heal. Remember to always clean your tattoo with antibacterial hand soap before applying any ointment or lotion.
Gym, Bathing, Showering, Hot Tubs, and Swimming with your new tattoo:
It’s okay to get your tattoo wet in the shower– just don’t soak it. Submerging your tattoo in a bath or hot tub can cause serious damage to your tattoo, so you’ll want to avoid those for 2-3 weeks, but showering is perfectly fine. If you get soap or shampoo on your tattoo, just remove it quickly with water. DO NOT swim or go to the gym for at least 2 weeks. Swimming and working out increases your chances of getting an infection.
Scabbing and Peeling:
After a few days, you will notice some peeling and you will also start to itch. This is normal and do not pick or scratch your tattoo. If it gets itchy, just slap/pat on it. If there are any scabs on your tattoo, leave it alone and it will fall off on it’s own. If the scab eliminates a good amount of ink on your tattoo, please notify your artist and wait a couple more weeks to get a touch up. Touch ups are free of charge within the first month with the new tattoo. Anything later than that, you will be charged a fee for all touch ups.
Sun Protection for your Tattoo:
After your tattoo is healed, protect your tattoo from the sun’s ultraviolet rays by using 30spf or 50spf sun block. This will keep your tattoo vibrant for many years. No sunblock = higher risk of fading.
Please follow the following steps:
Tattoos take 10-14 days to heal.
